Hiya

I want to use my Dell Inspiron 5100 laptop (with headset) to make international phone calls.

I was registered with iconnect, but could never get the thing working properly - i could call and could hear the person on the other end, but they could never hear me. I did the diagnostic check of the headset and am confident that this works properly as I also loaned the headset to a friend and he said it worked fine as his system worked (different brand computer).

I would like to try and get this working again, however, am now thinking of using the 'skype' software which is avaiable over the net. Before I do this though I want to make sure that my computer can actually make these calls.

I spent a lot of time doing various searches and unfortunately I am not real computer savvy so pls bear with me if I write something wrong...it will just show my uneducated thoughts.

What I can tell you is that I have a Inspiron 5100 with a SigmaTel C-Major Audio card and a PCTel 2304WT V.92 MDC modem. I did a 'query modem' in the diagnostics screen of the phone and modem options directory screen and on one of the lines in the response box it says " PCTel 2304WT V.92 MDC Modem Data/Fax".......so this seems to me that my modem does not support voice....but I am confused because of my earlier partial success of using the computer to call up landlines in other countries.

Any help would be greatly apprecaited

Looks like your problem is in your mic setup.Make sure you have the mic in the right plug on the PC.

Right click your speaker icon in the system tray and make sure you have the Mic selected.
