When I click Modem Settings in Control Panel I get a message
that says Modem not installed properly. You should uninstall
the modem drivers (using Control panel->Add/Remove programs)
restart and install it again. I did what the message said
and I still get the message. The name of the message is
slcpappl. There are files named slcpappl in my computer.
I get the message and Modem Setting will not open.

I put a new modem in my computer for a while when I did that
I removed Smart Link 56K Modem and Intel 537EP Data Fax Modem
both of those were in add/remove programs. Now I have the
Intel 537EP Date Fax Modem in my computer. The other one
I put in didn't work at all. I took it back to the store.
I use XP Home. The drivers are off a CD. I don't know if
Smart Link 56K and Intel 537EP Data Fax Modem are both suppost to be in there. I need to find that out. I thought the new modem would fix the problem I have had this problem since the
first time I clicked Modem Settings.

If you no longer have the smart link modem in the pc than remove the drivers from the add/remove program. When you remove hardware from a pc always remove the drivers first than the hardware. This way you let windows know that you are going to remove the device from the pc. I would also remove the dial up connectoid from the dial up folder and make a new one. Make sure that the modem you are using is listed in the connect using windows.I think what has happen is that the other modem is listed in the connect using windows now and windows is trying to find the hardware but it is not there.
Note the connect using window and make sure the intel modem is there.

SLCPAPPL.CPL
SLCPAPPL.HLP

"Smart Link Control Panel Applet"
http://www.jsiinc.com/SUBK/tip5000/rh5012.htm

These files are installed with the USB version modems.
The modems uninstall program is not removing the entry from the registry, still loading SLCPAPPL.CPL
Edit the registry after uninstalling the driver or install the modem with the "latest" driver then uninstall it. Should fix the problem.
