Hello all!

I've tried to install the latest driver for the Modem (PCTel 2304WT V.92 Modem) that I downloaded from Dell's support website. The installation was fine and it
detected the modem and everything fine. But once it finished, it gave me this error.

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

I've tried even old version of the drivers on the dell websites and still no help. I even tried the drivers up on the conexant drivers as they offered some generic drivers for this modem. Below is the link for the site.

http://conexant.com/support/pctel_support.html

Nothing as worked so far. I'm not quite sure whether this is a hardware or software problem.

I tried to search for the modem helper program on the laptop and it seems to me that it has been uninstalled or not installed on the laptop. I coudn't find the tool on Dell's website. I would like to know if there is any other way for me to get hold of this modem helper program?

Somebody please help. I need to get this laptop working asap! TIA

charles

Did you uninstall the old driver before tring to update. I would check the add/remove program,remove all modem drivers,check the device manager,remove all modem listed, then reboot and when windows finds new hardware point it to the drivers.

Check Device Manager for problem devices. (yellow question marks) Modem and sound device for modem.

Right after this message pops up;
"This device cannot start. (Code 10)"
Check the Event Log for more details on the error.
