Need a PCI modem that works without windows.

And if possible also works with windows.

If not posible, would an external serial modem work?

You need a PCI modem that has hardware controller -
This can include modems based upon
Lucent/Agere 'Venus' chipset
Rockwell/Conexant 'ACF' chipset
and certain USR models that are full controller-based modems which include the Courier Internal, as well as *some* Sportster models.
