I just purchased a brand new USR5610B Performance Pro modem. First, i tried it on my line my living room and it worked fabulously! But, i tried it in my room's phone jack (that is wired to the same "place" as my living room jack) and it connects but stops sending information almost instantly. I have the latest drivers, firmware etc. Ive ruled out my modem as the cause, and i have rewired my phine line many times. The line in CAT3 wire. I honestly dont have any idea what is going on! I need some help Badly!

1) Make sure you are using a line cord between modem and jack that has only 2 wires connected through. If you are using a 4-wire line cord, change it to 2-wire.

2) Make sure the modem still works in the other jack - the DAA is the 5610 is solid-state and easily damaged

3) If you still have problem, unplug everything else from all the other jacks wired to the line and see if modem works; if it does, start plugging back devices 1 at a time to isolate what causes problem

4) If you still have problem, connect directly to demarc and test

I have done every thing you have said yet to no avail! I connected directly to the demarc, and it runs like a champ, I also took extra Cat3 wire and hooked it up directly to the same junction as my room jack, and it worked as it should. BUT using the same hook up with the same wires and what not, when i plug into my room jack it doesnt even connect. i went uder the house several times to inspect the wire, and all was good. Its almost as if there is some kind of resistance of EM field that is EXTREMLY strong. Any thoughts or suggestions i greatly appreciat!

Try replace the jack in your room (use existing wire & hook it to another jack)

Multimeter - disconnect home wiring by unplugging at the demarc; using jumper, connect the R(ed) & G(reen) terminals at demarc together; then, measure resistance between R&G on your room jack; also measure resistance between the Black & Yellow as well as each of Black->red / green, yellow->red/green.
What values do you get?

With everything back to normal and all phones on-hook -
measure DC and AC voltage on your room jack between each of the 4 wires (R/G/Y/B). What values do you get?

Remove the Yellow/Black pair from your room jack and try modem.

Aloha! Richard.

The jack in my room has a ressistance of about 15-16 Ohms
the main connection at the demarc is the same. I tried the black and yellow, wich is the line that seems to be unaffected, has the same ressistance.
Would wire guage have anything to do with my problem, would a smaller guage(larger size)be more helpful?
All of our phone lines come through one central vent that is adjacent to the NID.

All of the phone lines are accompanied by several other high capacity power lines, even the functional line.

While i was under my house wiring, i noticed that the wire i am currently using was in a hudge rat's nest of tangles and bent wire. Could this have caused a problem with the wire? I did sort out the mess but to the same effect.

My older modem connects in one dial but the speeds are terrible. My USR5610B takes around 3-4 dials to establish a "connection". But the modem is not the problem, it works well 5 feet away from the demarc and also on the fuctional line
