To prevent my browser "freezing up" on some specific websites requires turning off the V90 ( at-v90=0 ) functions on my modem. As this also slows down large file downloads I would like to be able to change these parameters either by accessing a file from my browser or activating a shortcut on the desktop.

Can anyone detail if and how this can be done?

Thanks

Copy/paste your ati11 results from both V.90-disabled & enabled sessions in reply -

Initially I could not load a small number of high content sites to my browser but this was corrected by putting “s38=0 –v90=0” in the the “extra settings” box of the dialup connectoid. However large downloads showed significantly lower connection speeds and I felt it would be convenient to be able easily change this parameter without going through the many keystrokes required. I tried a separated connectiod for downloading but changing the “extra settings” box seems change in both connectiods. I have also tried a DOS “bat” command but it only appears to operate while the DOS box is active. I assume there must be an easier way?

Thanks

Both V.90 and V.34 connects show retrains - in fact the V.34 shows 2 vs 1 for the V.90!

Can you go back to the V.90 connect and wwait for freezing up situation, then after disconnect capture the ati11 and post that?

It is correct that extra settings (init string) will apply to any connection you make.

What driver version are you using? (Response to ati3) and what operating system are you running?

Aloha! Richard.

Hello Richard

Diver version ATI3 is – LT V.92 Data+Fax Modem Version 8.22
Operating system is – Windows 98 SE
Freeze-up – problems. This problem started happening 2 – 3 months ago and apeared to be fixed when modifying the modem parameters. On one specific site it froze consistantly after approx. 80% loading on two different makes of web browser.

In now trying to duplicate it unfortunetly ( or perhaps fortunately ) all seems to work OK. Perhaps there was a software problem ( now fixed ) that was more noticable at higher spedds ? If I can duplicate conditions I will forward the ATI11 results.

Does a “retrain” imply line or communication problems?

I assume my original request for an easy way to change parameters is more involved than I thought.

Thanks again

Ideally, you'd want to see 0 for all the error fields (xmt & recv) and 0 for the retrain fields - all you ati11's have errors & retrains.

How does regular voice call sound? Do you hear any clicks/hum/pops or background noise? If you do, clearing these up (telco/your wiring) may help your modem connectivity;
If the line sounds clean all the time, if possible, I would try calling into another ISP or different access # to see if you get same behavior;

What driver version is in the modem? (ATI3 response using Hyperterminal -
www.modemsite.com/56k/x2-hyperterm.asp )
You could try other driver versions;
Also make sure country code is set correctly.
