My problem is: my PC encounters errors, or crashes, or suddenly shuts down on it own while I'm connected to my ISP's digital dialup lines between 44K to 46K. I don't experience any of them with my ISP's analog dialup lines. What is causing them? Does it have something to do with my modem lacking a DSP? What can I do to resolve them? My OS by the way is Windows 98SE. And here are the usual error notices that pops up, as well as the corresponding error alert I recieved when I tried to redial: quote: quote: quote: Any help will be highly appreciated. Thank you! |

Start with Ad-Aware http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ Spybot-S&D (Search&Distroy) Hijack This; for advanced users; Always run a firewall; Sygate Personal Firewall; free version http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,118362,pg,1,00.asp |
st0ic0ne Tl Posts: 4 Philippines | Posted - 11/8/2004 5:26:48 PM Thanks for your suggestion Pi. I have Search&Destroy, and I always run my firewall while I'm online. I don't encounter those problems when I'm using my ISP's analog dialup lines. The only catch is that they are so slow compared to a digital one, so I have to use the latter. I'm thinking that my problem maybe caused by other reasons than what you have already enumerated. It could be the SM56's lack of DSP or something else. I mean; it works with analog lines but not on digital. So that must be the reason or maybe something relating to it. Any more ideas? Thanks again for registering your reply. I really appreciate it a lot. |

IS there a file listed after "in VXD --" http://www.techadvice.com/w98/E/Exception_errors.htm http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=%2Fsupport%2Fwindows%2Ftopics%2Ferrormsg%2Fkbfe0e.asp P/S Running a hardware based modem (dedicated DSP) might keep you on line but some piece of bad code is having its way with your system. Does this only happen with IE browser. Have you tried running without Active X (turned off)? Is you system and IE browser up to date, patched? Have you tried a different modem driver? By digital line I have assumed you mean a V.90 or V.92 connection and by analog you mean forcing a V.34 connection. ? Edited by - Pi on 11/8/2004 8:34:48 PM |
