regbro Tl Posts: 6 USA | Posted - 11/23/2004 1:18:11 PM I have a Compaq Presario 5304 system running Windows 98. I began to experience connection problems with my computer. I would connect briefly at near 56kb speeds but would lose the connection within 10-15 minutes. I felt the problem was with my modem so I downloaded a win agere modem from their website. I now can logon with no problem and stay connected for hours but only with an average connection speed of 16.8 or 19.2 occasionally but no higher. I know the win agere is a 56kb modem so what happened to my 56kb connection???? Help!!! Anybody!! Reggie |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 11/24/2004 9:57:25 PM What driver version do you have now? That's the response to ati3 from Hyperterminal What driver version were you using? If you don't know, you can try a number of older driver versions which are available for download from Modemsite - You'll need to balance stability of connection and speed - from your msg it would appear that a "near 56k" (what was it exactly) may not be realistic. If you want more advice, please include post-call diagnostics (ati11 results) in your reply. www.modemsite.com/56k/x2-hyperterm.asp Aloha! Richard. |
regbro Tl Posts: 6 USA | Posted - 11/26/2004 11:16:30 AM I am using the latest drivers available for the Agere modem - Agere v.92 Data + Fax modem Version 8.30. I have included the most recent post-call diagnostics and hyperterminal information. Hope this is helpful. 11-19-2004 16:08:31.70 - Agere Win Modem in use.

v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 11/26/2004 1:39:07 PM The post-call diagnostics are not there. The post-call diagnostics are the results from the command ATi11 issued from Hyperterminal connected directly to modem COM port. www.modemsite.com/56k/x2-hyperterm.asp www.modemsite.com/56k/ltwin10.asp I would also suggest connecting modem directly to demarc and testing connect speed; if connecting to demarc is not possible, unplug all other phone devices from the line - see Aloha! regbro Tl Posts: 6 USA | Posted - 11/28/2004 6:38:01 AM I don't know how to issue the command ATi11 to get post-call diagnostics. What is the step-by-step procedure? Also, I cannot connect modem directly to the demarc but I have no other devices plugged into this phone line.

v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 11/28/2004 1:52:01 PM Do you have more than 1 phone line? If so, try the modem with the other phone line. As for diagnostics - you need to use Hyperterminal, connected directly to modem COM port to issue the ati11 command. Aloha! Richard. |
regbro Tl Posts: 6 USA | Posted - 11/29/2004 1:08:49 PM Richard, I do have more than one phone line but when I use the other line the modem is still very slow(16.8). I was able to get the hyperterminal diagnostics using the ATi11 command. They are as follows: Description Status Last Connection V.34

v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 11/29/2004 3:25:31 PM Have you always had 2 phone lines or did you recently add 1? Often that can cause problems. Make sure you are using a telephone line cord that has only 2 wires connected through to the ends. I would suspect that either your modem is bad, or there's a problem in the phone line - your wiring or in the telco portion. The post-call diagnostics that you posted are incomplete - there's more data that's missing - see Aloha! Richard. |
regbro Tl Posts: 6 USA | Posted - 11/30/2004 9:18:07 AM Richard, I apologize for the incomplete data. Here are the complete ATi11 Diagnostics. Description Last Connection V.34

v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 12/3/2004 11:27:06 AM Well, the diagnostics don't look good. Either there's something wrong with the modem itself, or in the wiring between it and telco or beyond. Connect directly to demarc Test speeds calling other ISP #s using Hyperterminal Aloha!
