Hi
I am trying to find out if the modem I have is compatible with the modem on hold I am hearing so much about. I have a lucent venus modem and that is all I know about it. I am trying to find out if the modem I have is already equipped with this or if I need to update. If someone could tell me how to check for more information I would appreciate it also. I can from the control panel access more modem information however, I do not know what the information means. I do not know what I am looking for. Please help!!!!

Richard,
Thank you for responding to my question. I can not find my hyperterminal. I am running windows me. I went to start>programs>accessories>communications and do not have hyperterminal there.I went to search files and folders and found hyperterminal there but can not open it. It shows 0 bytes. I'm sorry if I am a bother,I know very little about computers. I would very much appreciate the help. The website modem.chke(going from my memory)is not exactly free. It is only free once the other version has been paid for so I cannot access help from there.I appreciate your help very much.

Hi Richard,
Sorry it took me so long to get back with you. Christmas keeps everyone so busy!!!! I went to the diagnostics on my modem from the control panel and the ATI3 response is:
LT V.90 1.0 MT5634ZPX Internal Data/F
The ATI5 is: 1052099fV,0,34
If this is not a modem on hold ready modem is there a download available so that I can safely upgrade?
Thanks,
Lisa

MT5634ZPX = http://www.multitech.com/PRODUCTS/Families/MultiModemZPX/

This is an Agere Win Modem (formerly Lucent or LT Win Modem) chipset. Multitech customizes the ati3/i5 responses.

It looks to me like Multitech made this model both as V.90 and V.92 and the standard info about this chipset/V.92 would apply: that is, if the modem has the 1648C DSP it will support V.92/MoH, and if it does not, it won't.
You should be able to install the LT 8.30 driver and run the LTMoH 1.72 to see if MOH/V.92 works. If it doesn't work, you could at least d/l and use the 8.02 special driver that provides disconnect on call waiting.

Hi again Richard!
I did the update and contacted my internet service to make the necessary changes for this service to work for me and i'm not sure if they are not giving me the right info or if I did something wrong with the down load. Should any of the info change in the ATI3 or ATI5 fields in the modem information? I checked both before and after the down load and everything stays the same in both locations. Once I added the information that my provider told me to add my modem did not respond to dial up. So I am not sure if I need to do something different or not. Please advise.
Thanks,
Lisa

Multitech ZPX modems are Lucent/Agere Venus hardware modems.
Multitech no longer supplies a DOS driver so the modems are often confused with Winmodems.

Multitech does not offer a upgrade to V.92 for the V.90 version modem. The Multitech firmware Flash Utility will refuse to flash a V.90 version modem with the V.92 firmware.

These are very good modems even with V.90 firmware. If you need to know who's calling when online you might try ;
AT&T 438 Internet Call Alert
http://att.onlinephonestore.com/flypage/2903/AT_T_438
I found them at Walmart, in store. They are not currently selling them online. Originally selling for $35.00 Walmart recently dropped the price to $25.00.

This unit does not allow you to put the incoming call on hold when online but it will announce a incoming call when online with light and sound and allows you to Ignore or Accept (hang-up) a incoming call.

I did find the "chirping' sound it makes to announce a incoming call annoying.
