Why is there a blanket recommendation to avoid USB modems on:

http://modemsite.com/56k/buy.asp

I'm rather sursprised to find that statement there without any explanation, while other recommendations seem to be well argumented.

USB does not suffer from the same speed limitations as a serial port does. USB modems can be found in a complete controller based configuration at low cost, which will yield minimum CPU load compared to any "soft modem" and "win modem". I'd think they are superior to any other modem, except maybe high speed serial modems.

Regards,
Alex
