Hello, I recently downloaded the latest firmware for my V.everything from the USR website. I am 100% sure I applied the correct firmware. After applying the firmware I cannot connect higher that 28.8 (based on bubble from W2K system tray). Before appying the firmware it was consistently 33.6. Nothing (hardware or software) changed and the performance drop was noticed immediatley. I have not monitored the actual speed but I do know for sure trasfer rates are noticeably slower. USR is no help whatsover. I am at a dead end with this and any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Flash the Courier back to the old firmware version.

I check with USR, they do not have the old version. Would you by chance have it or know where I may be able to get it? Is there any way to get it from another modem (save before update)? Thank you!

I was wrong. I did a search for the file listed in the link you provided and it was indeed on the USR website.

Do you know why this happens with the newer firmware? I'm more than happy to get back where I was but it would be nice to understand why my connection speeds are lower with a supposed newer/better technology (v.90).

I'm also wondering what you know about a v.92 update for this modem? I've found information on the Internet that 3com had planned to release one but then scrapped it.

Thank you very much for your time. It is greatly appreciated.

IT all depends upon combination of line conditions, ISP you are calling, call routing, etc.
If you weren't/aren't using an init string that disables 56k - since you don't seem to get it anyway - you might get better connect speed w/ new firmware with it disabled. With either version, it should reduce your handshake time and have 0 or positive effect on the connect speed.
