I recently purchased a USR Performance Pro v.90 modem and flashed it to v.92. The modem connects fine but there is a problem with Internet Call Notification (ICN). The utility will load automatically and it appears everything is working. However, the computer will not respond to any incoming calls. I can verify this by calling the number on my cell phone.

It *will* work if I exit the ICN utility and restart it while the internet connection is active. Then I call dial in with the cell the incoming call will display on the screen. So as a workaround, I'm manually starting ICN once I've established an internet connection. This works, but is an extra step I'd like to omit.

Is there any known way to fix this?

I came up with a work-around to receive phone calls while online with this modem:

1) Uninstall the ICN software. It tends to be unreliable with Windows XP, and I've heard this from others as well.

2) Add the following to the "Extra Initialization Command" section of Modem Properties: AT+PCW=1

The value '1' tells the modem to always disconnect when it detects a call waiting signal.

Now the modem drops the connection and allows the call to ring through to the phone. This is my preferred method as it doesn't rely on any extra software and no calls will be missed. It's only a minor inconvenience to re-establish the dial-up connection.

From what I've learned, the command in step 2 will work with most v.92 modems, not just USR.
