Pokie Tl Posts: 1 USA | Posted - 1/27/2005 12:39:03 PM Have 56K Internal Modem MDP7800-U (Dial up). Best connect speed ever attained is 26.4. Neighbors are getting 40K+. Have new phone cable from pole to house. Ad-Aware, Zone Alarm, Norton Anti-Virus running in background. Have Windows98 system. Where or what is causing reduction in connect speed? Pokie Pokie |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 1/28/2005 9:15:41 AM I have 2 numbers which added together equal 10. What are the numbers? (Answer - could be 1 & 9, 2 & 8, etc.) You don't have the info to answer your question. Take your computer to neighbor's house & try it on their line; try neighbor's computer on your line. It is not uncommon for telcos to have '56k-incompatible' lines running next door to 56k-compatible lines. If your particular line is served by 56k-incompatible telco facilities, 26.4k is all you'll get with any modem. If your modem gets higher speed on neighbor line, and if neighbor's modem gets low speed on your line, it's your line. Aloha! Richard. |
