I have an Encore ENF656-EHW-INPR modem with an Intel 536EP chipset. The modem works great connecting at between 46.6 and 50.6 Kbps. The "modem on hold" function unhooks and hooks back up to the net just fine. The problem I am having is that the MOH software (Netonhold) pops up and says there is a call when there isn't one. This can happen anywhere from 3 or 4 times in a minute to once in sevsral hours. The computer is a P4, 1.3 ghz, 512mb Ram with windows XP Pro. I have tried the latest driver on the Encore website and the latest driver on the Intel website but the false ringing problem is the same. I also tried using netwaiting and phonetray dialup as the MOH software but the problem remains unchanged. I have 2 other computers with MOH modems and they don't have this problem. They have PCtel and Lucent modems in them. Has anyone ever heard of this problem or know a remedy for it? It's driving me nuts!

This problem has been reported with various modems- I've never seen it first-hand - would call it 'mysterious';
I would suggest -- see if it happens with your modem connected directly to telco demarc -
www.modemsite.com/56k/demarc.asp
or if that's not possible, with every other telephone device disconnected from your phone line.

Aloha! Richard.
