I have a few US Robotic modems connected to the console post of my routers. I used to be able to connect to them fine, but with my new Dell Latitude 810 and Conexant D110 MDC V.9x modem I can no longer connect to them. The modems connect but when I press "Enter" nothing happens, it just does not send the command. I have tried the Init string &F&C1&D2W2+MS=V32 from http://modems.rosenet.net/inits.php/128 and now I can connect to some but not all. Some are 56k and others are 33.6. I am not sure which sites have which modem, but that is the only difference. Anyone have any ideas on what I can do?

Thanks!

Jason

Are you putting the init string in on the Conexant modem only?
The USR modems at the other end have what kind of initialization?
Suggest - USR modems initialized to disable 56k - see
www.modemsite.com/56k/ms.asp

Aloha! Richard.

I am putting in &F&C1&D2W2+MS=V32, which is for the Conexant modem only. It works on some. On the remote end I have external US Robotics and some are 33.6 and some 56k, not sure which site has which. I have all of the US Robitics dip switches set the same - 1,4,6,7 down and the rest up. Thanks!

Try init string
AT&FW2+MS=V34

If that doesn't help, it would be nice to know if the modem connects to only the 33.6k modems or not; and if the problem is connecting to the 56k USR's, I'd suggest disabling 56k on the USR 56k modems. I don't think you can do that with DIP switches, but can be written into NVRAM (non-volatile RAM) -
1-time command: ATs32=98&W (if USR is a 56k-V.90 only)
ATs32=128&W (if USR is a 56k-V.92)
After this is done, the modem should not be initialized with the AT&F or AT&F1 command which will over-ride the NVRAM. ATZ or power on will restore the 56k-disabled setting.
Also, the init example above assumes all other AT settings are correct at the time the &W is issued as all current settings at the time of the &W are stored in the NVRAM.
(You could also do a AT&F1s32=98, or AT&F1[plus any other commands needed for initialization in your environment]&W )

Aloha! Richard.
