I have an older, slow computer (CPU NSGeode 266 MHz, 250MB RAM, Insyde BIOS (3/12/03)). I recently upgraded the OS from w2K to XPPro, SP2. Everything works fine, except for the modem.

The modem dials my ISP, my ISP picks up, there is a series of "modem noises", and then I get either a "no answer, or no carrier" message.

Some further data points are:
- This modem did work on W2K
- It also works on XPPro on another, newer computer.

Any suggestions?

Aloha! Richard.

It is a USB Communicator V.92, and I just found out that the drivers are written by SmartLink, which has some issues with XPPro, SP2. I did download the latest drivers, and still have the same problem.

I believe I will just get a new modem, unless there is an easy work around ( already spend 2 days trying to get it to work!)
