i have a swannsmart 2 pro sm56 internal modem running on xp pro. im trying to slow it down to connect around 28000 , just not sure if the command im putting in is right, this is what im putting in the initialization box [ AT%B34 ] it connects, but does not seem to be working properly , if someone can tell me if this is right or wrong or if theres anything else i need to change many thanks in advance.

What speed do you connect at?
You shouldn't need to put the AT in the initialization box (and definitely no brackets).

You could also try
