Hi there,

Basically the problem I have is that when I first connect to my ISP (Wandadoo) I generally get a connection rate of 46.6 kbps. If I then disconnect and redial this will increase to 48.0. If I repeat this process after the fourth connect/ disconnect cycle I can get a 54.4 kbps connection rate. But, having to do this is a bit of a pain. Does anyone know if there's a setting I can change so that I can connect at the faster speed from the start without having to repeatedly connect/ disconnect/ connect?

I have a Toshiba Satellite running Windows XP Pro and a Toshiba Software Modem (V92).

Thanks,

phill

The modem is able to change rate (up or down) after your initial connect, so I wouldn't be too concerned about what rate is reported - instead, I suggest focusing on throughput because that's what really matters.

The various modem chipsets have speed limit commands with which you can try to force or limit connect speed; however, if you choose a speed that the modem thinks cannot be achieved, it will not connect at that speed (or at all depending upon the chipset/command options)
