modemq Tl Posts: 2 USA | Posted - 7/23/2005 5:00:40 AM I want to replace a non functioning (ISA) modem in an old compputer using Win95 and was told from a shop that sold me the used modem that I must first remove the old modem from the BIOS as removing it from the device manager alone will not accomplish this and has proven to be correct. After removing the modem from the DM and restarting, the computer does not recognize the replacemetnt modem. How do I remove the modem by accessing the BIOS? Thanx. |

BIOS setup will enable/disable built-in (motherboard) resources like COM port, parallel port, etc, but not add-in card. An add-in card needs to use resources (IRQ/port, etc.) that do not interfere with built-in resource assignments: ISA cards that act like a COM port (modem) normally have dip switch or jumpers to select irq, i/o port, etc. Aloha! modemq Tl Posts: 2 USA | Posted - 7/23/2005 4:37:20 PM OK thanx. Then how do I go about installing the modem. The shop mgr. said that the modem in question is set to work on Port Com 2. What do I need to do. As far as I can tell, there are no jumpers to set, just plug the modem card in and thats it. Thanx. |
