My Eiger Labs PCI Winmodem - for WIN 95 & 98 - won't install after upgrading to WIN 2K Professional. Am I out of luck, or is there a generic .inf file that will make this modem work? Thanks.

Winmodems require correct driver package (more than an .inf file) because modem is controllerless.
Eiger Labs PCI Winmodem uses Conexant chipset - so you need compatible Conexant driver. Not sure if your modem is a Soft56 or HCF - see

Richard,

Thanks for your help. I notced you posted 3 links. Should I try the chipset one first, then each of the other two, until one of them works?

Yes - the links have info and more links to sites for drivers. Conexant makes an id utility that will tell you which modem you have.

Richard,

Thanks again for your help. I installed the HSF driver, but no luck. First, it did not result in a functioning modem. Second, the driver installed a program called pcsnoop.exe, a back-door Visual basic program which is supposedly "required" for certain modems to function properly. It appears to have crippled my PC, by consuming 100% of available memory every 15 seconds or so. I may just give up and buy another modem.

Sorry did not help -
Perhaps you have the HCF chipset...?

Aloha! Richard.

Richerd,

You helped a lot. I might try the HCF driver, but might not. I didn't like that ptsnoop program at all.
