I have a Modemsite v.92 DSP modem (box says Pragmatic PVI V.92 56K data/fax/voice)that I would like to use the voice capablilities to play wav files from an application called PhoneTrayFree v1.20. PhoneTrayFree allows you to manage incoming calls based on callerid. For example, you can elect to terminate "Blocked" numbers and play a wav file similar to the Telco's Anonymous Call Rejection. I have Windows XP Home Service Pack 2 and am using the version 8.30 driver supplied with the modem. What do I need to allow the modem to have voice and to interface with the wav files so that it will play the announcements from PhoneTrayFree? PhoneTray shows the modem as not supporting voice, and there are no Unimodem listings in the hardware drivers (although I see Unimodem 5 in the Modem Control Panel -> Advanced -> Providers listing. As configured, PhoneTrayFree works correctly, terminating the designated incoming calls based on my critera, but plays no announcement.

All you need is "compatible software" - if PhoneTray doesn't work, then I would guess it's not compatible.
The DSP modem does support voice, but does *not* support (type 1) caller id.

Thank you. I figured out through trial and error that it doesn't support Type 1 CID, then read/verified it on your site. Can you recommend a voice modem that supports Type 1 CID?

Well - generally speaking, the modems that have line-powered (solid-state) DAA's support Type 1 caller id (for example, the Agere Softmodem variety that has the solid-state DAA).
I don't recommend this kind of modem because they tend to fail much more than those with the electro-mechancial line relay....
