I have a BCMV.92 56K modem that just won't connect at a fast speed anymore. I'm using 3.5.25.0 drivers running XP. I've gone through a bundle of trouble shoots thanks to this site! Our provider connect speed is solid with our other PCs in the house. Should I just ditch the Broadcom? And what should I replace it with? (seems like this sites modem is out of stock).

Thanks in advance,
GR

Have you tried conne cting the modem directly to telco demarc?

Sometimes, other devices connected to phone line can affect performance/speed.

If you want to replace the modem, and you have other PCs with modems providing good results, I'd suggest getting one of same type or at least same chipset as they are using -

Thanks Richard for your reply.

I'm having some success connecting faster now from simply cleaning the phone jack wall adapter (a 4 prong box of some sort) that is being used.

I can take the same phone cord and wall jack and plug it into another PC/modem and get a fast connect everytime. It seems like the BCMV.92 is more sensitive to line noise overall, and is what I suspected. I may end up replacing it since it is not supported anymore with new drivers etc....sigh.
