This is a pcmcia "telephony" modem but does not work with dialer.exe in XP. I assume the driver in XP does not interface with dialer. A USR technician claims that this is not a voice modem but I can manually and successfully set the modem to voice mode with at#cls=8.

Looking at the modem log after attempting to run dialer.exe, I see that the modem does go into voice mode and starts wave play/record but then receives a "DLE Raw=105." The modem response is "Meaning Unknown" and then hangs up.

Any help appreciated.

I think your modem was made before XP and probably never updated to truly support XP.

Dialer uses TAPI.
TAPI uses the modem's .inf file to define modem commands/responses, etc.
If the modem is capable, it would be possible to get it to work by modifying the .inf file appropriately; since the .inf file is a text file the actual editing is fairly easy; however, getting all the appropriate entries added to the .inf file would be tedious/complicated....

Aloha! Richard.
