Newbie here...with hopefully not too much of a newbie-like question: My last laptop (a Toshiba Satellite) came with a V-92 modem, which gave me the option of call-waiting (aka Modem-on-hold) However, my new Gateway 6510GZ laptop does not seem to have this feature pre-installed...even though my dial-up sever supports this and my local phone package includes call-waiting. Perhaps my modem is not compatible with an MOH option? It is listed as a: AC97 Soft data fax modem w/smart CP....and it is manufactured by CXT. Does anyone know if this is perhaps a setting issue, a software update issue, or if I do in fact need to get ahold of some kind of additional software which will provide the call-waiting feature that I (admittedly) got very addicted to using. And if so, any suggestions of brand names, and/or possibly free downloads that would be compatible with my particular modem? Thanks much! |

Conexant (CXT?) doesn't make modems - they make the chipset and develop the driver software. Third parties make the modem who in turn make a deal with the notebook maker (Gateway) to supply the modem. Gateway then re-distributes modem/software. The computer maker can choose not to supply it with V.92-enabled drivers/software - but the modem still would support those features with correct drivers/software. www.modemsite.com/56k/soft56.asp Aloha!
