I have a LT WinModem in use on a Windows 98SE system running an AMD K6-2/500. It works great except it always comes up "port open" and won't work. Deleting the modem in Control Panel/System/Device Manager/Modem and rebooting causes the modem to be reinstalled. It works fine until the system is rebooted. Then it comes up "open port" and above "delete" process & reboot required to get it working. It is an "E851" v.9- V5.20 Driver dtd 10-27-98.
Resources show "no conflict". Uses Com3, IRQ5 in (PCI) auto assigned by Win98. Haven't open cover to check chipset. Can, if needed.

How can I keep it from coming up in "open port" mode on startup?

Thanks...

v.Richard

Try putting the modem in a different PCI slot
www.modemsite.com/56k/pci.asp

If that does not help, suggest using the latest 8.30 driver --
www.modemsite.com/56k/ltwin7.asp

Run ltremove.exe before installing the driver.
Do NOT use the Windows Add New Hardware Wizard to install the modem.

Aloha! Richard.
