Whitey Tl Posts: 1 Germany	Posted - 10/20/2005 12:22:08 AM Hello i was curious if someone could explain to me how i would go about attempting to fix this. I recently movedinto a new home in germany without high speed internet access and had to get dial up. I can connect a a decent speed usually 46-49kbs. My problem is when ever i log into a online game (World of warcraft, Everquest) i get disconnected within a few minutes. Other than that my connection is fine. surfing the web, or downloading from any other site i stay connected for hours on end. I read this post and it seems he had the same issue and found some sort of solution quote: hi all. first of all. stuff cheap modems.. i have found a sollution for a modem issue with bnet.. ok first of all im using a 56k pci HSF data fax modem speech thingy.. i found that when i try and connect to bnet. that i get a complete modem dropout from the internet withing a few secs.. now the problem with the conexant generic modem. is that battlenet overloads the modem somehow and the modem comes up with an error and disconnects. but only on bnet. not browsing the normal net.. now i put this init string in my modem. s25=1 seems to stop the problem also disable in windows xp.. goto control panel>hardware>device manager?right click on your modem>then properties>then advanced>advanced port settings.. now disable the use fifo buffers and uart.. i also have heard that disabling this works for allot of generic modems.. also. my advice is that you invest in a better modem. spend some money.. and if you just bought this one.. take it back!!!! i can tell you now there is nothing wrong with bnet if you cant connect.. ask your server if they can reach the bnet site.. to verify.. also if you have some other type of modem.. look for init strings and also try slowing it down... dont touch anything else in your operating sys but your firewall ect.. dont touch any internal settings.. i still have drop out problems. but there few and far inbetween now.. it is a problem with my type of modem suppose thats why they sell them 20$ australian.. =p oh by the way this took me 2 days and thousands od pages to figure out my modem problem lol.. =p happy bnetting... Could someone please explain this to me a little better. i understand how to disable the options in XP but how do i go about midifying the init string? Please help me my gaming addiction is giving me the shakes and i need get this somewhat playable. Thank you in advance

In other words, without knowing what chipset you have and what chipset poster had, nothing can be explained. What version of Windows are you running?
