I have a USR2973 56k v92 modem using USRs Generic drivers ever since I purchased it about a month ago. Right from the beginning it would randomly disconnect but still show me as being connected from windows xp. Sometimes it would take minutes other times it took hours but it always did it. Less than a week ago I started having connection troubles, with a error message the remote computer did not respond. At first it only took a couple a couple times but as the week went on it it got worse taking 7+ attempts. Its now to the point were I can let it try dozens of times and it will not connect, just gives remote computer did not repoond message. I've contacted the ISP but all they say is we havn't got anyone with those problems, same reponce I got when I mentioned the random disconnet issue a month ago. Thinking it might be a damaged modem I picked up a Encore software modem (Intel 537EP chipset) to check, but it came with problems of its own. The driver it came with which is newer than the one offered on the Encore site caused the computer to reboot everytime I tired to connect. I then downloaded the one off intels site and it allows me to connect at 14.4k but if it tries to connect higher it also causes a reboot. I also tried moving the modem into different pci slots but didn't affect it. Another computer thats connected through this one that uses a old USR v90 modem connects perfect everytime at 26k/28k first try with no random disconnects. With this intel modem I've also tried to increase the speed at step at a time by using the +MS command. I've use everything from v32b to v90 and it still connects at 14.4. If I remove the +MS command it attempts to connect higher but often results in the computer rebooting.

What version of Windows are you running?

USR modem: has excellent post-call diagnostics.
Would like to see results from
ati6i11y11
from both modems (your V90 as well as the 2973 after it disconnects you)
www.modemsite.com/56k/diag3com.asp
Use Hyperterminal to get post-call results - www.modemsite.com/56k/x2-hyperterm.asp

What do you mean by "Another computer that connected through this one..."?

Aloha! Richard.
