Hi Richard,

Thanks for your reply.

Sorry that my previous post may have led you a bit astray.

You're right that my built-in ESS56CVM-PI modem (HP notebook n3390) is a software modem.

But, I meant to write that I'm not really trying to get that modem to work with Windows 3.11.

What I'm really trying to make work is a different modem, namely, a PCMCIA modem card that I already have, and that works fine on Windows 98 and XP, but which I want to make work on Win 3.11. The floppy disk that came with this PCMCIA card modem has an "*.inf" file for Windows 98, but not for Windows 3.11.

And so, what I want is some way to install this PCMCIA modem onto Win. 3.11. The specs for this modem are: "56k X2 and V.34/V.80 fax/modem," with a generic name, "Chem 34550 11/7/97."

I thought someone here might know a work-around or way to install this PCMCIA modem onto Win 3.11

Jim

Are you able to get other PCMCIA cards to operate in Win 3.11?
We're going back farther than my memory may allow at this time....!
Anyway, the first requirement for sure would be that the modem you have needs to be a full hardware modem - in other words that it looks like a COM port to the operating system as opposed to a soft modem that creates a virtual com port;
the other aspect would be the drivers for the PCMCIA interface - you need Win3.11 drivers tthat allow the OS to see the PCMCIA bus.....
even then, not sure but you might need something specifically designed for 3.11 and the particular modem....

Aloha! Richard.
