Hi, I'm new here. I currently have a D-Link DSL modem and DSL service at 2mb/s. I am building a new computer to replace this one, and I am looking for an internal DSL voice/fax modem.

From what I have learned in my many google searches, all voice modems are dial-up. I certainly will not go back to dial-up service. Can a voice modem of any kind work with my DSL service? I would like to be able to answer calls through my computer, use my computer as an answering machine, etc.

I'm willing to buy an external DSL voice modem if no internal is available. I prefer a PCI card over an extra box on my desk.

I also plan to buy a fax machine, which would be connected to my computer. The model I want is the Brother MFC 7820. It is a multi-function which doubles as a computer fax.

Thank you for your help.

BTW, the modem must support Caller ID service. I have Caller ID, but I want a Caller ID display on my monitor for every call. Thanks.

I just talked to a PC store owner who told me how these voice modems work. I had no idea. I understand now that I don't need a DSL voice modem, but that a voice modem works independantly from the DSL modem.

Now what I'm after is the best voice/fax modem with full duplex and Caller ID supported. I know AOpen makes a good one, but the speed is only 14.4kbps for fax. The fax I want to buy has a speed of 33.6kbps, so I need a modem that supports that.

Does anyone know what the model # would be for U.S. Robotics' best voice modem?

Thanks.
