I haveinstalled a Motorola SM56 and the modem does not reconize the phone ringing. I have another computer on the same line that works OK... I am able to dial thru the modem but the fax sofware does not answer the phone...

The command to autoanswer is
ats0=# where # = the number of rings to answer on, 0 being to disable.
Your modem log indicates the ats0=0 string is sent to modem which disables autoanswer.

Your extra settings (user initialization string) ats=3 does not turn on autoanswer.
You should change to ats0=1 (or ats0=3).
