When I try to put the computer in the "sleep" mode I get this response: "System Standby Failed - -
The device driver for the Agere System`97 modem device is preventing the machine from entering standby. You may need to update this driver."

This is a preloaded modem in a Sony Vaio desktop. The "sleep" mode worked fine until I dumped ISP MSN. I am a novice at this so any help to fix the problem will be appreciated. Thanks.

What version of Windows are you running?
What modem driver version is installed? (This would be the response to
ati3
issued from Hyperterminal connected directly to modem COM port as described at
www.modemsite.com/56k/x2-hyperterm.asp )

What did you do to the PC when you 'dumped' MSN? Did you uninstall software or change settings and how did you do it?

The modem may be in use/active when you are trying to enter standby - check the modem log (copy/paste-post here if you are in doubt) - see
www.modemsite.com/56k/modemlog.asp

Aloha! Richard.
