I have just upgraded to a new computer with an Agere AC97 modem. Having connected everything as per the manual, I cannot get a dial tone when trying to connect to the internet. Other computers running Windows XP will not connect either, but my old Windows 98 set up still works. The computer will dial on the supplier's line. Has anyone any idea what I can try to get the dial tone - short of getting a new line from BT?

New phone cable that has only 2 wires connected through to each end.
Also, make sure you are plugging phone cable into 'LINE' jack on the modem.

I am definately in LINE amd the cable came with the computer - I will check how many wires are connected.
