I have problems with USR 5633 modems (not just one).
The following are some of the emails between me and USR support.
Form me:
I had already read the support pages before I email you.
I had already installed the latest driver.
I am not using ICN.
I am only investigating on behave of a customer.
I used Windows XP's Hyper Terminal to connect to the modem.
Hyper Terminal was connected via the com port for the modem and not the modem name.
I then entered ATZ and AT+VCID=1 to initialise the modem and start the caller id function.
I have a caller id connected on the same line.
Out of the first hundred calls, the modem missed 37 and the caller id missed 6.
This test was run for a few days with more than 100 calls per day.
On average the modem would miss around 1/3 of the calls.
Also, I tested with 2 modems (the same modal) connected.
These missed around 40% of the calls on day one.
The driver refused to start the next day and have to be reinstalled.
Do you have a better driver or any helpful suggestions.
Form USR:
Dear Customer,
Thank you for contacting USRobotics.
Unfortunately we can not support a caller id setup that does not come with the modem.

Can anyone suggest anything?
I am running out of time, project deadline is coming up very soon.

Thank you for any help

v.Richard

The only suggestion I have is to make sure the modem is set for your country (UK) - there are differences among the various countries in telephone companies call waiting signalling and most modems provide for this by having a programmable country code setting. I do not know for your particular modem what command will display the country code setting or the commands for changing it, but if this doesn't solve the problem, I would suggest going for a different make of modem.

Aloha! Richard.
