Installed an older (1996)ISA USR Sportster 5600 winmodem with driver disk downloaded from 3-com site. Install seemed to go well on pseudo com3, irq9; but when I try to run diagnostics, I get an "unable to open port" message. Attempting to dial out to ISP results in a "port already in use" message. Any help?

Did you have a modem installed before you put this modem in? (If so, you may have conflict from not removing old modem in Windows.)

You can also check for running tasks w/ CTRL+ALT+DEL - there may be something that actually has the modem port opened.
