I have switched from PC to Mac. The Mac is a Power Mac Tower G4 with internal V92 modem. I can only get a 28K connecton on the same phone line I used o get 50.6K with the PC and a external USR Modem.

The Mac is USB. Can someone suggest a high quality external USB modem that is MAC Compatable. I cant live at 28K, it creeps, 50.6K was bad enough LOL.

Thank You

The MAC doesn't have a standard serial (COM) port?
Sorry, but there isn't any USB modem I could recommend - most will require a Windows machine.

Aloha! Richard.

Hello Richard;

Last night, I found that Zoom makes a USB external modem with
drivers for Mac. The Model is 2986. Are Zoom Good Modems ? Do they run their own processor like USR does on their externals ?

Mac, does not have any serial ports, all USB or Firewire

Yes, the Zoom 2986 is uses hardware controller - they made this modem with either Agere or Conexant chipset - the new ones probably have Conexant chipsets.

1 other thing you might consider: a USB to serial-port adapter would probably be less expensive than another modem that may not give you the desired performance.
For example, see

(Search with Google for 'USB to COM port adapter' or similar).

Aloha! Richard.
