comet Tl Posts: 2 New Zealand | Posted - 9/1/2006 10:10:12 PM When I try to connect to my ISP via dialup networking, I get the following error, "Opening Port... Error 633: The modem (or other connecting device) is already in use or is not configured properly." The only program I can detect that could possibly trying to use the modem is called "Modem On Hold" I have turned it off. When using the troubleshooter I am prompted to check if the port is enabled in Device Manager but interestingly the Ports listing is missing from Device Manager. Also the Device Mangager reports the modem to be working properly. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Toshiba A10 Laptop Many thanks, |

comet Tl Posts: 2 New Zealand | Posted - 9/3/2006 8:54:08 PM Thanks for you assistance Richard, Modem Query returns this error: The port that the modem is attached could not be opened. This may be the result of a hardware conflict. Check the device manager to verify all devices are functional. I have subsequently checked device manager. All devices reported to be working. The Modem log reads as follows but as I can't open a port it is doesn't say much... 09-04-2006 15:41:28.218 - File: C:\WINDOWS\system32\tapisrv.dll, Version 5.1.2600 Many thanks for any suggestions you may have? Toshiba A10 Laptop Kia ora, |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 9/6/2006 6:57:43 AM It would look to me as if your modem driver is not properly installed. Would recommend re-install. First, search for and run the modem delete program agrsmdel.exe which should already be on your hard drive and is also part of the driver package. Then, reinstall the modem using the driver that Toshiba supplied; if you don't have it or can't find it, you should be able to get it from their website/support - The Agere softmodem supplied with notebooks is an AMR (audio modem riser) type, and there is no generic driver - you need the driver from Toshiba. Aloha! Richard. |
