sebby Tl Posts: 2 France | Posted - 9/26/2006 2:20:07 PM Hello, i'm trying to make a dial in server to be accessed by other modems, we have short and good quality lines but it seems we won't get upper than 31k.. i tried usr, connexant, same deal (externals, no soft modem) Strange since the same modem can connect to an regular isp @ 48k! i've already tried V92 init string, upstream and stuff... Is there any magic behind that? are isp's using special modems? if yes, which ones? thank you sebby |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 9/28/2006 10:25:57 AM Yes - V.90 / V.92 modems are different for client and server, and the server requires a different type of phone line. A V.92 server modem is100% digital - and the phone line is a digital connection to telco. Typically, ISPs use T1 or higher service from telco. A single T1 (in USA/North America) would provide 24 dial-up access lines. The product an ISP uses integrates digital modems with other capabilities (routing/authentication, etc) and is called a RAS (remote access server).

v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 10/10/2006 10:04:39 AM You would need v.92 or v.90 server modem(s) - otherwise the client modem wouldn't be able to connect. Manufacturers of RAS equipment/server modems include: Also see:
