I've noticed for a while now that my downloads have been under par, even for dialup, so I ran a speed test. According to http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ I have a download speed of 13kbps and an upload speed of 126kbps. Yes, you read that right, I can upload at 15.75KB/s on dialup...

But the problem is, I don't NEED to, and I'd prefer to put that bandwidth to better use on my download side. Anyone know if it's a TCP setting I need to change, or what could cause this if it's hardware/line related?

Any help would be appreciated.

I just did some TCP tweaking, and have gotten the following results from the same site:

quote:
Last Result:
Download Speed: 24 kbps (3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 191 kbps (23.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

There's something wrong with the test .
If you are on a dial-up connection, it is impossible to get the upload speed reported.
You can't upload at 15.75KB on dialup despite whatever the faulty speedtest says.

What would help in identifying your connection problems is:
the modem post-call diagnostics - www.modemsite.com/56k/diag.asp
the modem log - www.modemsite.com/56k/modemlog.asp
info about your computer (version of Windows), the modem chipset and driver version; etc.

Also see

In my opinion, the best way to monitor speed is Net.Medic.

Aloha! Richard.
