My modem (Agere PCI Soft modem) tries to connect a too high of a speed. I live in the boonies and would like to set this at a max of 31200. This modem always tries to connect at a higher speed up to 37700 but I have problems with anything above 31200. I have windows XP and have gone to control panel> phone & modems> modems>properties>advanced and tried to add several command strings to no avail. Can someone suggest the correct string (or a different place to do it) so I can limit the speed to 31200.

Attached is a log if that helps

Thanks, Jim

You can limit speed with initialization string (extra setting) -
+MS=V34
would probably be best in your case - it limits max speed to V.34 standard (33.6k or lower).

You can also limit speed with other strings - see
www.modemsite.com/56k/x2-linklimit.asp and
www.modemsite.com/56k/ms.asp

I would also suggest: Update your modem's driver - you may get better performance / higher connect speeds with no limits by using the latest version of the driver -
www.modemsite.com/56k/sv92p.asp

Aloha! Richard.
