Hello All,
I just installed 4 new zoom modems (model 2949c). I am using Procomm plus and the modem will upload a file with no problems. But when I download a file I keep getting alot of Bad CRC and RX Overflow errors. Procomm keeps correcting them but it is taking 4x the amount of time to download the file and sometimes the file fails. I have changed all the modem and port settings in windows to match another machine that is working fine. Do I need to use some AT command to correct these Bad CRC and RX Overflow errors. Any help please.

What speed is your connection?
These modems use a virtual COM port and have no real speed limit, so I think it would be best to set PROCOMM's COM port speed to the highest possible value (115.2k or higher)

Aloha! Richard.

Hello,
I changed the speed to the highest settings (115.2K) and I still have the same problems. I am connecting to medical payers BBS systems and these errors only happen on the downloading of a file the upload is fine.

What speed to you CONNECT to the BBS at (after dialing in, what speed is reported?)

It might be useful to get the post call diagnostics -
AT#UD
is the command, and you may need a decoder to have the results mean anything - see
www.modemsite.com/56k/diag.asp (Connexant)

It might be ever better if you have return privleges on the modems (it's probably been 4 or more yrs since anyone manufactured a 2949C) to return them and go with a different / current modem - (I'd go with an Agere-based softmodem).

Aloha! Richard.

The diagnostics indicates that from the modem's perspective there were no errors (that were not corrected) - so the program should have received exactly what was sent..
What flow control option do you have selected in Procomm?
What method are you using to download files (protocol)?

It does look like, at least on the connection you show, the receive data rate is poor (19.2k vs 31.2k up), and noisy. So there's probably a fair amount of error correction going on in the modem; it could be that Procomm, also using a software error control download protocol detects an error before the modem has finished its own retransmission/correction.
So, I would suggest trying these things:
Use a non-error correcting download protocol and let the modems do the error correction;
or, disable error correction on the modem (although this may result in problems before you start the download) and use an error correcting download protocol with Procomm;
and/or/plus try to speed limit the TX rate (and if that doesn't work, the RX rate as well) - www.modemsite.com/56k/x2-linklimit.asp -
I'd first check multiple connections to see what the TX/RX connect rates are, and if RX is always 19.2 or so and TX is much higher, limit TX to about the same rate as RX; if that doesn't help, you could try limiting the modem protocol to V.32 or V.32bis - www.modemsite.com/56k/ms.asp or try even lower RX rates/

Aloha! Richard.

Hello v.Richard,
Thansk for the suggestions. I still have this problem. I am using Zmodem to upload and downlod the files. The flow control I have set to Now, HardWare and Software in the procomm settings and the port settings with no luck. Any other ideas?
Thansk
