Richard
Since getting a new internet provider, I continue getting disconnected from the internet after being online for 5-8 minutes. I talked to 3 different isp "techs" each one would have me change this setting, put check here and remove check from there... I still have the probl;em. The last tech I talked to said that I needed an updated driver. I download it from your site approximately 4 years ago. It is a Lucent Win modem driver 8.28 V92. Could this be causing my problem? Whats your thought on this?? Your input would be appreciated. Thanks

The latest driver for the Agere modem is 8.30, but there's no major difference between 8.28 and 8.30 that would likely be the cause of your problem.
Determining what exactly is causing your problem may be tricky as it could be almost anything -
it could be spyware/malware/other software; it could be something with the modem or it could be something with the phone line.
First - check the modem log as see what it says about the disconnection.
If you don't see that part of the log, you can copy/paste the log in reply here.

Check your connectoids - remove any that aren't being used

Check software you have installed (Internet browser, email, etc.) that may have settings to automatically connect to the Internetand either change it to NOT automatically connect, or make sure that every such application is set to connect using the SAME connection; also make sure these applications aren't set to DISCONNECT when they are finished (browsers generally don't have this disconnect setting, but other software, including email, do)

Aloha! Richard.
