I am having a problem getting a dial tone with a SoftV90 Voice Speakerphone PCI modem (as identified by XP).

The phone cords have been checked and I am able to run a regular phone through the modem and get a strong dial tone.

The XP-provided driver was released 7/18/03. The version is 7.12.9.0.

The chip is a Conexant R6793-17. Conexant's listmodem app reveals the following:

VENDOR NAME : CONEXANT
DEVICE NAME : HSF DATA/FAX/VOICE/SPEAKERPHONE
SUBVENDOR NAME : ACTIONTEC -- HTTP://WWW.ACTIONTEC.COM/
MODEM TYPE : HSF
WINXP INBUILD SUPPORT : YES

Notes...

I can't find any Actiontec products that have a Conexant chip, even in the archive section.

I tried to upgrade using the Conexant HSF driver (GENHSF5.inf) and Windows doesn't recognize it as a valid driver source file (modem list is empty when Have Disk button is used to point to the folder that has this file).

Here are the query results:

ATI4 - SoftV90 Voice Speakerphone Modem
ATI5 - 181
ATI6 - SoftK56
CModem Version 12
Rksample Version 342
ATI7 - 255

The modem is on COM4 using IRQ16. I/O range 9000-9007

Under the driver file details, all of the Conexant HSF files are version 7.12.09 (not a typo). the mdmxsdk files are version 1.0.2.006.

FIFO buffers box is clicked. Port speed = 115200; Data protocol standard EC; Compression enabled; Hardware flow control. Data bits=8; Parity = none; Stop bits = 1. Receive and transmit buffers at full high.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Mike

The driver would not appear to be an issue because it recognizes and responds to AT commands.

Aloha! Richard.
