I have a Compaq laptop with a conexant softmodem inside, and a dialup internet connection. I need a way to monitor my phone line in case calls come in, because I miss way too many of them already, and for some reason, when people call as is, my phone rings a bajillion times while I'm online before the answering machine kicks in, so they end up hanging up anyway. I bought the computer in June of 2006. What I need to know are the following things: Any and all help would be appreciated. |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 8/30/2007 4:34:13 PM The modem can support MoH; HP/Compaq has disabled MoH capabilities with some of the machines/modems they sell - if you rec'd a software app called NetWaiting or something else with Modem-on-Hold in the name (MoH) with the modem, then yours would be one that they didn't disable it on. If you didn't, then you'll need to get driver somewhere other than from HP, and MoH software. "The answering machine" - sounds like you have a telco provided answering service, not a machine at your location. As long as you get a v.92 driver with MoH enabled, MoH software, and are dialing into an ISP that supports V.92/MoH it should work. Where do you get the driver/software? I would suggest determining the PCI ID of your modem, and searching for that on Google or other search engine along with driver. Any vendor other than HP/Compaq (assuming yours is one they don't support it on) will have drivers that support V.92/MoH. Aloha! Richard. |
