| david t. boyer Tl Posts: 1 USA | Posted - 2/7/2008 4:04:27 PM    Go a new HP laptop with a Moterola SM 56 data fax modem two weeks ago. It can only connect at 28.8 kbps. My old Gateway was able to connet at 44 kbps to the same number to the same ISP. Have spent days on the phone with HP and MSN, but they have no answers. Tried to do the hypertext trouble shooting on this web site, but it seems that Vista doesn't have that funtionality. Any thoughts or suggestions? thanks in advance dtb |
| v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 2/11/2008 9:01:15 PM  I would suggest taking it around to different places with other phone lines and seeing if it can do any better with other phone lines. Also, on your line, try it with everything else disconnected, or connected directly to the demarc www.modemsite.com/56k/demarc.asp Check the HP site to see if you have the latest driver for the modem. If dial-up is your primary means of connection and you are not able to improve the connection, you might want to consider returning the notebook and only purchasing one that has a modem that works well with your line.
