I have been using an internal diamond supr 56k v92 modem for dialup & usually get 40-45k line speed. decided to play with linux , so I got an external "amigo" v92 rs232 serial AME-CA-95 (conexant drv from amigo web site) connected. I now notice that the external modem (running conextant driver)runs at 32k to 37k ??
I would have thought an external modem would be faster.
Please tell if there is more I should do.

Generally speaking, the true hardware modems are older design and may not work as well as newer softmodem with optimized drivers.
The driver really has little to do with an external hardware modem performance - it's the FLASH firmware. Check the flash version. See if there's any other flash available.
