Hello all,
In connection with a R.O.C. project (R.O.C. = Revive Old Computers) I'm involved installing modern Linux OSs. Most of these machines have Softmodems or Winmodems isnstalled which are sometimes hard to get working under Linux.
In this particular case I need to know, if somebody knows if there is a Linux support for PCI modem CE0682X which has an ESS TeleDrive chipset ES2898S?
I was not successful in my Google researches so far.
Maybe somebody can help me.
Any comment or idea is highly appreciated.

ESS FAQ (last item) http://www.esstech.com/techsupp/faq-comm.shtm
says they will only supply Linux drivers to OEMs.
And, also look at this:
http://osdir.com/ml/linux.linmodem/2003-02/msg00142.html

Basically, part of your problem is/will be that Linux Winmodem drivers need to support a particular build/kernel, and since dial-up modems have become a dwindling market, mfr's have little incentive to keep up with drivers.

You might consider getting old (used) external USR Sportster or Courier modems.....

Aloha! Richard.
