I recently purchased a USR modem with speakerphone capablities to use with Classic Phone Tools 9. I had purchased CPT9 last August for an old Gateway PC with a speakerphone modem in it but couldn't get CPT9 to work with the modem because it couldn't recognize it. I later found out that there is no XP driver available for the modem. So, after trying to get a refund from Avanquest for several months (which never went through) I ended up keeping the software because my monitor died and I decided to buy a new PC and a new modem. Unfortunately, I couldn't order a speakerphone modem with my PC because the PC I chose didn't provide that option. That's why I bought the USR modem. It is the only low priced speakerphone capability modem they make. I chose USR because they are the #1 modem mfr., and I chose this modem because it's the #1 selling modem in the world, and I couldn't find out from Avanquest which modems work with their software (they don't have a list, supposedly).
Anyway, after installing the modem and software, I discovered that I can't make outgoing phone calls with the speakerphone feature because the other party can't hear me, though I can hear them. (The mic works, so please don't ask.) Also, I can't receive incoming phone calls because the modem automatically answers in fax mode and refuses to answer in phone mode even though I have the proper settings selected in the software. I have spent the last two months emailing USR tech support and Avanquest tech support, and finally had to call Avanquest tech support after the email support told me that the software developers informed him that the CPT9 only works with modems that have integrated sound (yeah, right!). The guy I spoke with on the phone told me that the software must be incompatible with the modem, and there's nothing he can do.
So, here I am with speakerphone software and a speakerphone modem that I can't use for a speakerphone on my PC, which is the only function I'm interested in using (well, I may send or receive a fax or two now and then, but that's even doubtful). I would like to know if anyone knows which modem will work with this software so I can buy it, or which software will work with this modem so I can buy that. I can't return the modem because it's past 30 days, and I may not be able to get a refund on the software (I already tried that without success, plus it's past 60 days). Or if anyone has any other suggestions, I'd surely appreciate hearing them.

What is the model # of the USR modem you have?
Does it have an input for the microphone?
