Removing the phone from the phone jack on back of the modem. Why because allot of modems will kill the modem side to use the phone side which will cause a disconnection of the isp. When you use a splitter on the modem side with a phone they will work together and it will not cause the modem side to go on hook. Most modems are set up to use one side or the other at a time.Try this string.

+MS=V92;+PCW=0;+PMH=0;+PMHT=12;+PSS=0

+PMHR: 12 12 would be the decimal number and your isp will give you 16 minutes time out.

Charles:

That just dumbfounds me! I thought the "phone" jack on the back of modems was a simple pass-through... after all, the phone still works even when the PC is OFF. Nevertheless, I've removed the phone and changed the init string; that should be interesting, because my ISP's other dial-up provider by default only provides a 5-minute timeout rather than twelve.

BTW, didja know that MS *limits* the length of the init string that can be entered into the Advanced/Extra Settings tab? I'd guess I could probably force a longer one into the modem's class key in the Registry directly (found it), but how stupid is that?

Speaking of the Registry, can you anticipate a problem with the "hidden" MS init string, presumably gotten from the INF file when the modem was installed and normally only seen in the log:

AT&FE0V1S0=0&C1&D2+MR=2;+DR=1;+ER=1;W0<cr>

That's also present in the modem's class key, so I can change it if necessary to make this work (or improve something else).

AT&FE0V1S0=0&C1&D2+MR=2;+DR=1;+ER=1;W0<cr> This is the default string for this modem to work and there is no need to remove or change this string. Extra settings alows you to add to this string.
Try this. +MS=V92;+PCW=0;+PMH=0;+PMHT=12
or +PCW=0;+PMH=0;+PMHT=12;+PSS=0
or +PCW=0;+PMH=0;+PMHT=12
NOTE:0 is zero.
Might also disable Quick connect.

This is why they made MOH. You have one phone line connected to the pc,if you could talk on the phone and serf at the same time there would be no need for MOH.You can put a two way splitter on the line to have the phone setting by your pc.

Do you have netwaiting set to start at windows startup also check settings for how you handle an incoming call.If you installed other version of netwaiting did you uninstalled the old one first? Might also check if you have any old netwaiting.ini or netwait.ini file still around.Check the setting in the netwait.ini Please post the netwait.ini settings. If you have a firewall installed could be the problem. Netwaiting needs to receive the call waiting tone to exe it.

Check settings. This is for other modem but setup should be the same.

ESSSPK.exe note the ESS

Call waiting task which gets installed by the drivers for V92 modems based on ESS Technologies chipsets. If you enable the call waiting facility, and your telephone line has the capability, and someone calls you while you are browsing the Internet, a popup comes up on the Taskbar, ESSSPK, informing you of the call and which number is calling you. You can decide to ignore the call or to accept it : if you accept it, your Internet connection is disconnected and your modem and/or phone rings.
DI3631
This modem uses the ess chipset.

But not the DI3631-1
