Ruth Tl Posts: 22 USA | Posted - 4/5/2002 11:09:51 AM Hello Charles, Bob & others, Prior to reading your last posts, I had decided to look deeper into the AT strings in the Control Center. I noticed that there were more strings that I had not previously paid much attention to. So I wrote down the new additions to the string; and I had gone into the start button, settings, control panel, modems, properties, connection, advanced, extra settings place and typed this in: (adding in the new strings that I had found) ATS0=1S7=60&U0&N0&K1&M4S27=17S32=2S33=0+PMH=1+PHR=1&D2&C1&S0&B0X4E0F0&H1&10&R2+A3 I was able to connect to the internet, using that init. string, however I have not yet tested with a phone call. Am I correct in thinking that the modem will 1st send it's own default settings, and then send my custom settings which I have typed in? If that is correct, I don't mind doing it this way, as long as it will work. If this idea of mine will work, I suppose I should add "AT#CID=1" to my init. string somewhere. Where should I put it in the string? This is the log after I added to the init. string: 04-05-2002 12:22:21.74 - U.S. Robotics 56K FAX EXT PnP #2 in use. I also think that there must be a way to create and save a new template and profile. I just don't understand how to create and save a new template. I know how to save the profile. Once I select all of my preferred settings in the Control Center and save the profile; should I avoid typing that long init. string, and instead just type in: AT#CID=1&W3 in order to enable caller id and save the settings in a new template? I put the number 3 after the W, so as not to over write any of the 3 factory templates-which are numbered 0,1,and 2, and to create a 4th template-numbered 3. Looking at the log, I could not tell that it had even used the init. string that I typed in. Thanks again for your help. |
Ruth Tl Posts: 22 USA | Posted - 4/5/2002 11:17:50 AM I guess I can see that it has used my settings, now that I've looked it over some more. |
Ruth Tl Posts: 22 USA | Posted - 4/5/2002 11:25:20 AM JLEWIS2444, I hope this will be of some help to you. I'll be sure to let you know exactly what I've done to make this work, once I get it to work. |

Ruth Tl Posts: 22 USA | Posted - 4/5/2002 11:34:11 AM Hello Charles, I've already asked my ISP if they support v.92 and they said Yes they do. |

Troubled_user Tl Posts: 263 USA | Posted - 4/5/2002 12:52:41 PM The init string is not being sent because it is too big. There's a 127-character limit to an init string, also don't put the AT into init strings. Windows puts AT there for you. Try just putting in +VCID=1;#cid=1 |
Ruth Tl Posts: 22 USA | Posted - 4/5/2002 2:41:03 PM Hey Guys! It works! I cannot thank you enough for your help!!! Here is what I did to make it work: AT&D2&C1&S0&B1X4E0F1&H1&10&R2&A3&#CID=1 Now, in the Internet Call Notification software program, under the Connection Tab I selected Dial-Up or ISDN, and I also selected Prompt me for a decision. Under the Options tab I selected all 3 of the choices & told it what sound to play whenever I get a phone call. The only problem I have with it, and it's a minor one in my case, the phone number and/or name of the caller does not appear on my monitor screen within the Internet Call Notification software program. In my case, I already had a $15 Caller ID box from Bell South, which I have connected between the modem and my telephone; and it tells me who is calling. I answered the incoming call on the 3rd ring. I am very happy now! Thanks a whole bunch for helping me! P.S. I realize that I may not have needed to type in all of the Initialization string that I did, but I have a motto: "If it works, don't fix it!" |
Ruth Tl Posts: 22 USA | Posted - 4/5/2002 2:45:53 PM P.S. again, My modem's model number is USR5686D, not 5868D. |
charles Tl Posts: 5879 USA | Posted - 4/6/2002 12:56:43 AM You do not need the modem string just #CID=1. If you look at the log your string has not been added. One thing there is a error in it also the &10 is not a valid command.Go to the windows inf folder and look for USR5686D.inf file.Open the file in wordpad and you can see the default modem string is the same as the one in your log.Your modem uses the #CID=1 not the +VCID=1.You do not need isdn check also. This is from the trouble shooting page. You will be notified of incoming calls only if you established a connection using the V.90 or V.92 protocol. If you connected with one of these protocols, your reported connection speed will typically be above 33,600 bps, but below 57,600 bps. If you connect through any connection other than through the V.90 or V.92 protocol (such as V.34 for example), this feature will not work and you will not be notified of incoming calls. Try this string in extra setting +MS=V92,0#CID=1 or +MS=V90,0#CID=1 After you try one of these strings please repost your modem log.

Ruth Tl Posts: 22 USA | Posted - 4/6/2002 2:31:49 PM Hi Charles, I have not yet made the change in the init. string that you have recommended, I still have the same settings I wrote about last, this is my current modem log as I am now connected: I will have to wait a while before making the changes that you've recommended, until I can set it up for someone to call me and test it out. I'll let you know how it goes, after I make the changes. |
Ruth Tl Posts: 22 USA | Posted - 4/6/2002 2:39:03 PM troubled user, The only reason I gave my correct modem model number, was because jlewis2444 had listed his modem as 5868D, and mine was a 5686D. Since we were both posting in the same threads here, I just wanted everyone to be sure about which modem I had. At first, I had thought that jlewis2444 had the same modem number as mine. But I've realized since that his number was different from mine. |
