One to keep in the hack folder. Have you tried any AT commands to the modem. Are you having any problems with the country code?

No problems that I can see. Windows XP identifies the modem as "Courier V.Everything EXT PnP (v90-x2)". USR's Modem Identification says it's a "U.S. Robotics Courier V90 56k Ext". I've used Hyperterminal to go directly through the COM port and used ATDT commands to dial, and I've used an XP dialup PPP connection to dial into Total Control and Livingston terminal servers. Modem properties in XP returns all the normal stuff. I'm not quite sure what the AT command is to display the country code, but I seem to be able to do anything I need to do, including reflashing with the original US 03/13/98 code. The flash has failed a few times, but powering the modem off and on and then running the flash utility again has always ultimately been successful.

To view the available countries and the country ID number, go into Terminal mode and type AT+GCI=?
To view the currently selected country code, type AT+GCI?. B5 should be for the US.Whay OS did you flash the modem with?

I just get ERROR when I try AT+GCI=? or AT+GCI?. To run the flash utility, I just used a command window under Windows XP.

It appears USR has been licensed by Conexant to produce modems based upon the 'Soft56' chipset. I got the command from usr but think it was for the conexant chip.

Your modem would have the Texas Instruments chipset.
USR modems include built-in AT command help. You can view (and print) the command set for your modem using Hyperterminal. The dollar sign is the display help command; the following commands are used to display the command help:

AT$
AT&$
ATS$
ATD$
AT%$
AT+$

If you want to check the connection
ati6
Ati11
